Recycling of polymers by pyrolysis

چکیده
The pyrolysis of plastic waste, scrap tires and other polymeric materials in a fluidized bed has been carried out based on a scale up program (laboratory plants 70 g/h, 500 g/h, 3000 g/h, and pilot plant 20-50 kg/h). The fluidized bed shows short residence times and high heat and mass transfers, and is heated indirectly up to 600 800 OC. In the case of poly(methylmethacry1ate) (PMMA) or polystyrene as feedstock up to 97 w t . % of the monomer can be recovered. Other polymers give a more unspecific product spectrum. Depending on the process parameters between30 and 60 % of the polymeric material could be recovered as oil which is comparable to that of a mixture of light benzene and bitumious coal tar if the pyrolysis gas is used as fluidizing gas. The other fractions are gas anda residue containing fillers and impurities (heavy metals). The gas fraction contains mainly methane, ethane, ethene, and propene, the oil fraction benzene, toluene, xylene, and naphthalene.

Kinetics of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)and Polystyrene (PS) Dynamic Pyrolysis
Thermo-chemical treatment (TCT) such as pyrolysis is getting recognized as a valid route for (i) materials and valuable products and petrochemicals recovery; (ii) waste recycling; and (iii) elemental characterization. Pyrolysis is also receiving renewed attention for its operational, economical and environmental advantages. In this study, samples of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyr...
متن کاملRecycling Techniques of Polyolefins from Plastic Wastes
Disposing of plastic wastes to landfill is becoming undesirable due to legislation pressures, rising costs and the poor biodegradability of commonly used polymers. In addition, incineration meets with strong societal opposition. Therefore, recycling either mechanical or chemical, seems to be the only route of plastic wastes management towards sustainability. Polyolefins, mainly polyethylene (LD...

After the first life cycle of plastics various recycling processes are available for further utilization of these valuable materials. For an ecologically and economically satisfying solution the most suitable process has to be chosen. In chemical recycling polymers are degraded to basic chemical substances which can be reused in the petrochemical industry. For soiled waste plastics or waste pla...
